Benidorm Safety

  • What are some safety tips I should know?

Be very wary of street performers, particularly ‘potato men‘ who perform magic tricks with hollowed out potatoes and a ball. Sometimes this is a scam by groups who prey on the fact that the audience is distracted.

Avoid walking alone at night and keep your bag to a size you can manage easily, if you look like you are struggling you can make yourself a target to opportunists. Look confident as you travel from place to place, looking like you know where you’re going can help to keep you safe and ward off undesirable attention.

Keep your luggage close at hand at all times and in sight if possible. Do not have your name or address visible on any tags and never leave your luggage unattended. If travelling in a big city, study the public transport system, its the quickest way to get around but can be confusing.

  • How do I keep up with the local news?
  • What are the common crimes?

Beware of pickpockets as they tend to operate in tourist areas, keep your belongings secure at all times and be careful if strangers try to make conversation or distract you as it could be an attempt to steal your valuables.

Beware of people riding on scooters! One of the most common methods of theft is with the use of the scooter, and you should be especially wary where you see a passenger on the back. They fly past and whip bags from shoulders, which can often lead to the victim being injured if they are dragged to the ground.

  • Are there any areas I should avoid?

Exchange places near the Sol Pelicanos hotel.

Levante has a bad reputation for drunkards. Don’t be walking alone at night.
